OpenTTCN Announces OpenTTCN Trinamite TTCN-3 testing tool

December 17, 2007. Lappeenranta, Finland. OpenTTCN Ltd announces a new OpenTTCN Trinamite TTCN-3 testing tool. OpenTTCN Trinamite is affordable TTCN-3 development and run-time environment for creating in-house test systems using standardized TTCN-3 testing and test control language and programming TTCN-3 adapters using, for example, C# programming language.

OpenTTCN Trinamite product offers a number of key benefits for testers and test system programmers:

  • increased productivity when creating new test cases using standardized high-level TTCN-3 testing language requiring fewer statements for expressing the same test logic,
  • re-use by using test cases programmed by others with TTCN-3, using publicly available test suites, and sharing your own test cases,
  • reduced training needs when using simple to use test management for running test cases, and
  • faster programming of TTCN-3 adapters using C# programming language and other programming languages supported by Microsoft® .NET Framework, and existing C# libraries.

OpenTTCN Trinamite consists of:

  • OpenTTCN NCM test management GUI,
  • OpenTTCN TTCN-3 virtual machine, and
  • OpenTTCN C# SDK for TTCN-3 adapter programming.

With OpenTTCN Trinamite, you can run automated test campaign executing TTCN-3 test cases for testing reactive systems. The testing tool produces a detailed test log that helps to keep record of performed testing and in case of errors it helps to determine the cause of any errors found using the provided analysis capabilities. The testing tool allows you to connect diverse set of System Under Tests to the testing tool using a user programmed SUT adapter and network or software connection.

TTCN-3 is a standardized high-level testing language that has been used by European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) and WiMAX Forum to create publicly available standardized test suites for technologies such as IPv6, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and WiMAX. The TTCN-3 testing language can be used to create test suites and it includes an open extensible architecture for creating new test systems from components.

OpenTTCN C# SDK used for programming TTCN-3 adapters is for Microsoft® .NET Framework and requires Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005 development environment. The TTCN-3 adapters can be programmed using C# programming language. OpenTTCN C# SDK supports both the TTCN-3 Runtime Interface for communication operations and external functions, and TTCN-3 Control Interface - Coding and Decoding sub-interface for encoding and decoding.

Supported TTCN-3 standards; applicable parts of:

  • ES 201 873-1 V3.2.1; TTCN-3 core language,
  • ES 201 873-4 V3.2.1; TTCN-3 operational semantics,
  • ES 201 873-5 V3.2.1; TTCN-3 Runtime Interface, and
  • ES 201 873-6 V3.2.1; TTCN-3 Control Interface.

Supported operating systems:

  • Windows Vista™ , and
  • Windows XP.

Supported compilers and programming languages:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005; C# programming language.

Published release date: March 17, 2007. Reason for delaying this release is implementing the support for Visual Studio 2008 for OpenTTCN SDK.
